La Aurora 107 Robusto

June 19th, 2023: There are several varieties of 107 Robusto. This one comes with no embellishment on the label, so I assume that it is the Ecuador wrapper; certainly not the Nicaraguan. I bought a box of 21 in April and have smoked four at the time of starting this blog entry. The first one was delicious. The other three were good, but body was a bit thin compared to the first with the exception of the final third in the fourth, which I smoked last night, which was quite potent and complex.

Aroma, on the other hand, was exquisite in all cases. The fourth cigar that I tried became quite intense and delicious around the final third. I smoked it well into the nub.

Compared with the short robusto, the robusto, a classic 5 x 50, is a little stronger, richer and more intense. All of the La Aurora cigars that I have smoked have burned and drawn excellently.

July 3rd, 2023: Excellent example of the blend: smooth, rich, complex and medium body throughout. Flavour is a savoury, medium roast coffee. I didn't detect spice or pepper. The flavour was smooth and salty with a rich, toasty, aroma. Very satisfying. 60 minutes.

August 13th: Full bodied with excellent aroma. Burn and draw were perfect. Flavour was consistent throughout. Very satisfying: 55 minutes.

August 27th: A treat: delicious to the nub: medium to full bodied with a lovely, complex, sweet and savoury flavour and exquisite aroma. Very satisfying at around 60 minutes.

Good to the nub.

September 27th, 2023: a real treat. Delicious floral prelight aroma, excellent draw, full body with complex aroma. Very satisfying. 60 minutes.

December 19th, 2023: This one really tops the list of favourites: rich, complex, medium full bodied, good burn and draw, rich aroma. Very satisfying.

February 21st, 2024: Smooth after the first few puffs and consistently tasty, but only lasted 60 minutes. Quite satisyfing, but another 10 or 20 minutes would have been better.

March 4th: Delicious, smooth, complex and excellent balance. Medium plus. Perfect burn. Almost 70 minutes. Very satisfying.

June 20th, 2024: Much like the previous. 70 minutes Very satisfying

La Aurora 1495 Sumo Short Robusto

This is a cousin to the Sumo 107. The 1495 is a maduro. Both of the short robustos are 4 x 58 ring gauge. According to Halfwheel, they are constructed as follows:

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra

Binder: Dominican Corojo

Filler: Dominican Republic, Peru & Nicaragua

June 12th, 2023: I smoked two of these short robustos in early June. They are a darker roast flavour than their 107 cousin, but quite complex and very well constructed. They both hovered around the medium body level throughout. Strength was never and issue. Burn and draw were perfect. They easily allowed 60 minutes smoking time. I think I prefer the 107 for complexity and balance, but these are good and definitely worthwhile as a change from the 107. Quite satisfying.

August 11th, 2023: Started off with a nice, complex maduro flavour and delicious aroma. Towards the nub flavour dissipated to a less complex, vegetal profile. Draw and burn were excellent. Quite satisfying at around 50 minutes.

November 13th, 2023: Delicious, rich, complex. Burn was a bit wavy, requiring a couple of touch ups, but the major issue was that the cigar became very hot at around the final inch and half. Otherwise quite satisfying at 60 minutes.

January 15th, 2024: One of the best: rich, complex. Burn was wavy, draw was easy. This one didn't become too hot. Very satisfying. I didn't time it, but over an hour to the nub.

February 8th, 2024: Excellent, medium full bodied; or, full bodied but without spice or tar. Very smooth, slow burning, volumes of smoke output, excellent long finish and complex aftertaste. Came close to 80 minutes. Very satisfying.

April 12th, 2024, Turin: Full bodied but well balanced with a bit of strength, excellent complexity, good draw and burn. Very satisfying.

Baratti and Milano, Turin

April 29th, 2024: Last one in the box of ten and just as rich and delicious as the others. Very satisfying.
